Chlamydia is a type of sexually transmitted infection. It can be caught through sexual intercourse, sharing sex toys, and in some cases using fingers in sexual acts. The sexual health centre will offer advice as to how to contact previous partners. This is to try to stop the increasing spread of this infection. There are a large amount of people who are unaware that they are infected because they do not have any symptoms. The physician can help practice conversations or offer methods of contacting them.
It is understood by staff at sexual health clinics that it may be embarrassing to seek testing. They are fully trained to respect one’s privacy and adhere to confidentiality laws. If left untreated, chlamydia can lead to infertility in both women and men.
